Latvian is is the dominant language of the mass media and schooling systems in Latvia, although Russian, English, Swedish, and other minority languages are also present.

Latvian is written with the Latin alphabet, however modern Latvian uses additional letters to make the languages more phonetically appropriate.

There are just less than 2,951 Latvian speaker in Australia, according to the 2016 Census compared to the 2021 Census data with 2,274 Latvian speakers.
