Developing Translations for Menopause Toolkit

Protected: Women NSW

Overview

Ethnolink is proud to have collaborated with the NSW Government to develop translations for the Menopause Toolkit, an informative initiative with the support of Jean Hailes for Women’s Health aimed at sparking conversations about perimenopause and menopause. By providing translations in 8 different languages, including checklists, social media tiles and posters in multiple languages, Women NSW can share these trusted resources and reach multicultural communities.

Challenge

The challenge lay in fostering open conversations about perimenopause and menopause, topics often met with silence and taboos. Additionally, the need to reach diverse linguistic and cultural communities, including Indigenous groups, presented a significant hurdle. Overcoming these challenges required creating translations that were not only linguistically accurate but also culturally respectful, accessible and inclusive.

Solution

We translated the Menopause Toolkit into Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Hindi, Spanish, Vietnamese, Filipino, and Greek, ensuring accuracy and cultural relevance. Social media posts and posters were also developed in these languages, enhancing the toolkit’s outreach. Through community checking, Ethnolink gathered feedback from the target communities, ensuring the translations were culturally appropriate and understandable. Moreover, Ethnolink engaged in community consultations with Indigenous groups through Plain English translations, incorporating their perspectives and ensuring respect for cultural nuances.
