NAATI stands for the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters and is the Australian body for maintaining high national standards in the translation and interpreting industry. NAATI fulfils its mission by providing credentialing for translators and interpreters in Australia to standardise quality, professionalism, and linguistic ability among practitioners. Many agencies and official documents require NAATI-certified translators and interpreters to verify the legitimacy of the language service.

What is NAATI's LSP endorsement model?
Introduced in 2026, NAATI commenced its Language Service Provider Endorsement Model under authorisation of Australian federal and state governments, intending to provide government agencies procuring translation services additional assurance that the LSP meets their access and equity objectives. To be NAATI endorsed, an LSP must engage and induct NAATI-certified practitioners where possible, follow the LSP Code of Conduct, meet cyber security standards, follow quality assurance and feedback processes, and report service-related data to NAATI every three months.

This is different from working with an individual NAATI-certified translator or interpreter. NAATI certification applies to individual practitioners, while NAATI LSP endorsement applies to the language service provider as an organisation. For government, public sector and not-for-profit organisations, this provides additional confidence that translation and interpreting services are being delivered through a professional framework, with NAATI-certified practitioners engaged wherever possible and clear processes in place to support quality, accountability and consistency.
