Ethnolink collaborated with Diabetes Australia to enhance the accessibility and accuracy of the surveys we translated through our Community Checking Package. This initiative aimed to ensure that the translated surveys were culturally and linguistically appropriate for diverse communities. The surveys were translated into seven languages: Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Vietnamese, Hindi, Italian, and Greek, before engaging in our Community Checking Report.
Diabetes Australia is a leading charity and peak national body representing Australians living with diabetes. Their mission is to reduce the impact of diabetes by advocating for people with diabetes, promoting diabetes prevention and management, and supporting research.
Diabetes Australia required their translated surveys to be reviewed and validated by native speakers of the target languages to ensure accuracy and cultural relevance. The languages involved included Arabic, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Vietnamese, Hindi, Italian, and Greek. The key challenge was to ensure that the translations were not only linguistically accurate but also culturally appropriate and easily understood by the target community members.
Ethnolink prepared a comprehensive Community Checking Package, which included in-language reviews by literate native speakers, documentation of detailed feedback and amendments, and the provision of an Ethnolink Certificate of Community Checking for Diabetes Australia's records.
The Community Checking Package successfully ensured that the translated surveys were accurate, culturally relevant, and well-received by the target communities. Diabetes Australia received detailed reports outlining the feedback and amendments made, along with the certification. This process enhanced the reliability and effectiveness of their surveys, enabling better engagement and data collection from diverse communities.
